Writers Working Wednesday!

Author Collette Cameron has a fabulous Five-Line Friday feature in which authors are encouraged to post five lines from any book they've written. She has inspired Book 'Em North Carolina to do the same!

So each Wednesday, we plan Writers Working Wednesday, in which any author can post up to five lines of any book they wish to promote. Here are the guidelines:

1. In a comment, post up to five lines from a work in progress or a published work. You must be the author of that work, and it must be rated PG (we have students who read this blog).

2. Add the title of your work and include a buy link if you'd like.

3. Also feel free to add your website URL.

So let's see what you have for us: start posting your excerpts below!

This is from my upcoming release of "The Prosecution of Mr. Darcy's Cousin: A Pride and Prejudice Mystery.

Perfection will never be within my grasp, Georgie, and I have executed my life poorly. I wish I could remove all the grief you have known at my hand. I mean to make changes, and my resolve will play hard with each of us, but I pray it will lead you back into my embrace. I mean to share a part of me I have kept hidden from the world. Everyone says doing so is the only means to solve all, which has fallen between us. Bringing love back to your eyes is reason enough for me to risk everything. Please tell me this is your dearest wish. Your loving husband, EF.

Here's a snippet from my last NC-set paranormal romance - A Demon Bewitched. (More info at

“I’ve got bottled water, skim milk, and Cheerwine.” She said “Cheerwine” with a devilish grin as if she thought the offering would be an absolute deal breaker. For some people, it might have been. That stuff could put a lesser man into a coma in two liters or less.

Good afternoon! Fantastic blog.

I am posting 5 lines from my time travel novel, Entranced, Book 1 in the Soul Mates: The Legend of Blackbeard's Chalice series. The time period is 2012 and the setting is the Outer Banks of NC.

The full moon rose, lighting the sandy beach. Stars and sea spray twinkled in its clear reflection. The surf rolled endlessly, and Claire Winslow stood in her thin summer gown, steps from the porch of the house she had rented, remembering the night she first saw Jack Porter. Remembering the brewing hurricane, and the storm that had chewed up and spit back her life at her—

Entranced is a free ebook series starter, than you can find at most retailers! Thank you for this opportunity.

This is from a poem entitled "Nervous Breakdown" from my forthcoming book, CRAZY, (Eerdmans/Oct. 20, 2014). A few more than five lines since its a novel in verse.

If you’ve ever been there
when a lightbulb gets real bright
just before it blows out,
then you know what it was like
around here when things got extremely crazy,
right before they shipped Mama off
to the nut house.

Thanks for this opportunity!

This is an excerpt from my historical fiction/fantasy novel "The Secret Diary of Sarah Chamberlain."

'Em felt a strange tingling race up her spine as she stared at the small parcel she held like a precious stone. The fabric was a piece of coarse cotton. She wrestled with herself about the right thing to do.She knew she should give it to her mother, but her excitement over the find was escalating. She unfolded the piece of cloth.Inside was a small leather book about three by five inches.'

From "A Question of Boundarries"

Leaning his head down so his lips touched her ear, he whispered, “Caroline, do you trust me?”
She nodded, not daring answer aloud. Their pursuers were halfway to them and would spot them in seconds.
Nathan took her hand in his. “Hold tight,” he said.
And then everything disappeared.
